ADDENDUMB

Hold it! Hold the presses on the last one! Not just the foreskin, but a substantial part of the larger organ was attached. Yes, it did belong to Jesus as earlier stated. We know that because of the 'Return Requested' label. But it now seems not to have been a circumcision. We experts think that a distant relative of Loraina Bobbitt was involved. Likely some kind of revenge for Jesus' messing around with Mary Magdallane.

On another matter: After my scholarly article on Adam and his Belly Button*, a reader asked if Adam had ever married Eve. WHAT A STUPIT QUESTION! Who the hell was available to do the ceremony? Oh, sure Satan could have but he was just in a gross laughing spasm over the entire show. The snake had caused enough trouble already. So the frisky pair were out of luck marriage-wise. Didn't bother them at all cause marriage and alimony hadn't been invented yet.

PUDENDA WILSON'S ALMANAC: ON CHRISTMAS PREPARATION HINTS

Merry Crispness and a Snappy New Beer!

Oh, I suppose any beer will do for you but for me could it be a crisp Dutch, German or Czech Pilsner please?  I am happy with good crisp bacon too or some nice crispy cookies, oatmeal preferred.   Leave it on the fireplace mantle.  I’ll come down the chimbly and eat it (wink, wink).  I’d appreciate it if you would extinguish the fire first or Santa will be crispy too.

Geting ready for the Holly Daze you will need a pretty wreath for your front door.  You get them from your local bigoted boy scout group.   They have an equivalent to the military don’t ask/don’t tell policy.   They will not have any atheist children you see because they could expose the entire imaginary god sham.  One bad apple in the basket can rot out the entire troop according to the old sooth saying.  Scout leaders don’t care what make believe deity you choose if you pick a higher power from an approved assortment.  No, gravity or the strong nuclear force will not help you here; that would be cheating.  Maybe it is because gravity sucks everything into the hellish hot inferno inside of down under and we don't mean Australia.    The scout people will accept any god on their list  even gods that deny, hate and kill each other.  Seems unlikely to generate a peaceful or rational boy scout environment but that is the way it is so take it or lump it.   They will even accept the god of the Moron Church who was only invented in the nineteenth century.  Yes, Joseph, the Con, Smith invented the whole thing claiming he read about it on pure golden tablets.   So if the scouts will accept his crap or the catholic gods or the islammy god I say it is just a mess.
There are twelve scout attributes or Laws: A Scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave,  IRRATIONAL and GULLIBLE.

For a snappy Xmas party invite your local priest, imam and rabbi in for a egg nog and social chat about the meaning of the season.  Have plenty of booze or even injectable tranquilizers on hand for the exciting part.  Seasonal colors are Red and Green.  Have holly strewn about and the guests will sprinkle their bright red blood around to complete the decor for you.

IT WASN'T THE GRINCH THAT STOLE CHRISTMAS.........

It wasn’t the Grinch that stole Christmas, it was the Christians!

Yes, a splinter jewish cult did it.   They are only the most recent to do it and I propose that we return the damn thing to its original owner (if we can locate him or her.)   It puzzles me why any one would want such a preposterous story.  A maiden gets knocked up by some god while she isn’t paying attention to business and keeping her legs closed as a good girl should.   Really you would have to be a moron to believe it unless you just accepted it as true from early childhood brain-washing.   Even then you would expect an adult to put it by like the Tooth Fairy for whom in fact we have more evidence (coins under the pillow).

I checked the story out a bit.   It seems that people have long enjoyed to celebrate the passing of winter, the solstice, and look forward to the end of cold and approach of spring.   What the hell?   Where did these people live, in Florida or in Africa or some sandy islammy country?    If they lived where I live they would look forward to  more months of winter and then to the tough sledding months.  But that is my own fault for moving to Minnesota.  Never mind; whatever.

In Italy they loved the Saturnalia at about the same time and it was jolly good fun in honor of Jupiter, no sorry, Saturn.  That guy was in charge of agriculture and every one just had the best time getting drunk and doing a lot of naughty things.  But they also favored Mithra, a damn fine god who was born on December 25th.

There is no good reason for believing the imaginary Jesus guy was born on Mithra’s birthday but pope Julius the oneth, chose it to swoop up the date and steal the traditions of the Saturnalia festival.  It was a sly but successful maneuver.

Yet in my country the holiday has moved away from the Christian usurpers to become a time to slaughter perfectly good little trees and lop the heads off innocent turkeys.   (Though people who live with or near turkeys find them to be stupid and smelly and quarrelsome so probably they should get beheaded and roasted).  They are damn good roasted; behave much better too.  A little gravy and cranberry helps.  And if you try to buy one at your grocery you will have to hold your hands over your ears to get past the cacophony from the Salvation Army with their kettles to catch your coins so they can spread the phony Christmas story to credulous children. (I belong to the Salivation Army, another group entirely; we just love to eat.)   But you can do it, get past the bell ringers, give them the finger not your money; be brave.  Cook up a great meal; share gifts; enjoy the santa myth and sing songs by the fire but…..

.....please can we all do our best to keep the silly christians out of Xtmas.  Thank you.

Helping out again about Christmas and etcs.

Readers have requested:  Would you tell us a "Christmas Story" for children of non-theist families?       Thanks, your loyal fans.

I sense your need!   Will the following help?

Now children settle down with your blankets and stuffed bunnies and GranFrogger will tell you all about Chrispness.

You know that most of your little friends believe in Slanty Claws and in Cheeses too.  That is because their parents are sillies and have lied to them.  That is sad of course but GranFrogger tells the truth because it is better for you and will make you happier and not feel cheated when you later will learn the truth anyway.  You have already noticed that Slanty in his fake whiskers, red suit and whiskey breath appears in scads of stores at the same time.   Miracle?  No, Trickery!   And any one that corpulent  (that means sloppy fat) can’t get down any chimneys and not get roasted and all sooty.  Yes, it is make believe like the Ether Egg Bunny and Tooth Fairy.  It all can be a fun story and Chrispness can be fun too if we know the difference between pretend and truth. We all enjoy presents,  milk and cookies for Slanty on the mantle and pretty lights and music.

But now to the most silly part of Chrispness.  Lots of groan up people claim to believe that Chrispness is all about Cheeses and a virgin mommy (never mind the virgin part; I’ll explain that later when I tell you about fucking and the real way babies get started).  The virgin part is fako anyway so just ignore it for now.   The story is that one of the gods came down from the clouds and knocked up (that means got her belly full of a baby) a young woman named Mary.  At least that was Mary’s story and she has stuck with it.  It probably saved her life because in those days the gods  (they are imaginary too) commanded that girls that got preggers before they were married (or after marriage by some sly devil they were not married to) must be squashed by having plenty of bolders dropped on them.  Of course that would be unpleasant for Mary so she lied.

So yes, she became famous and so did her son, Maurice.  For effect Maurice changed his name to Cheesie Crispy and manufactured crackers for a living.  He figured he would sell more crackers if he made them out of his body parts, foreskin, dandruff and stuff like that which he didn't need any more.  Then he declared he was part god yet fully god and people should eat his crackers with a nice glass of cabernet or zinfandel.  But the people were disgusted with him and decided to fix him for good,  crucifix that is!   That means they hung him out to dry and think about what he should do otherwise next time only he got dead before next time.  But that gets into the estrus story which I will tell about later.   Chrispness is the big whoopee about how he was born to be a manager, no, born in a manger.  There is all kind of forgery about the story which was stolen from the stories of many other imaginary gods before the Cheeses god was invented.

So what you need to know about it all is just to shut up for now and enjoy the fun parts and ignore the other children’s baloney.  Later when you are groan and cram full of wisdom like GranFrogger you can tease the sillies about------- Hey, wake up you little shits: I’m not here just to jabber into the fireplace.   And Oh!  Look down the chimbley in a plop, its fricassee of reindeer!

THE VISITORS

Two young women presented themselves to my front door a while back.  They were ever so neat and clean and all bright with cherubic smiles.   I just wanted to buy some cookies from them.  But the brighter eyed cherub explained that they hadn't brought cookies but had something much more valuable for me:    SALVATION FROM MR. JOSEPH, THE MORMON, SMITH.   They came into my sunny dining room and sat down.    I learned that in 1828 Mr. Joe Smith found some shiny golden tablets when he was digging around in New York.  They had mysterious symbols on them but Joe with his third grade education was able to translate them from their ancient Egyptian glyphs.   From them he developed the BOOK OF MORON and started a new religion for us, MORONISM.  And these charming angels were here to invite me to salvation.  No cookies but still a very good deal.

I listened attentively as they showed me actual pages from his book.  When I had a chance, I asked them if they had any evidence for their religion.     OH, YES, the golden tablets are the evidence.   Super, said I, where can we seen them?     OH, you can't see them, they were taken up by god.   Then there is no evidence?    THAT IS THE EVIDENCE, that they were taken up, proves there is a god!

Well, I explained the nature of evidence for them and they agreed that they didn't have any, but they didn't need evidence because:  WE HAVE FAITH!   Indeed they had a bushel of faith.  I was sorry to disappoint them but I explained that I had been canvassed by a variety of religious salesmen and all had faith as exuberant as theirs.  So I asked if they had anything in their faith baskets that was stronger, more earnester, more convincinger than the others.  I wanted to help so I suggested that if there were several gods...........OH, NO, NO, NO.    there is only one true god and he belongs to Joseph Smith!

The smiles were some tarnished now but they gathered their wits and asked?     Have you read the Bible?    Sure, I've read it plenty.  Do you two believe it?   Oh, we surely do, every word.
It was my turn now and I said:    Excellent, then now we can get down to business.   Do you know that Jesus said, TRULY, TRULY (I paused for a powerful effect between the first TRULY and the second TRULY,   then I started up again,  TRULY, TRULY, ANYTHING YOU ASK OF THE FATHER IN MY NAME WILL BE GIVEN YOU.   Oh, they believed that with all their sunbeam hearts.  Now, I said, we can get some evidence.    I took a lovely pear from a bowl on my table.  It glowed of summer's sun with radiant greens, yellows and pinks.    I asked them to pray with me:    Dear god, we pray in Jesus' name that this pear be turned to solid gold in the next five minutes that we may sell it and give the money to your church for good deeds.   This will display your power and glory and will cast away all my doubts.  Amen.

OH, DEAR, OH, DEARIE ME!   The tension grew thick as the minutes started.    Smiles flattened into grimaces as the older cherub suddenly remembered that they had another house to visit and were late.  Up they jumped and started for the door.  WAIT, WAIT, only one minute more and we will surely know if Jesus and the Bible told the truth and you will have a convert!     But OH, NO, it was time to go!  They said they would pray for me and scooted out.     I called after them:     Don't you trust your god?

Well, the pear just remained a pear, no gold at all.   I guess that disproved the bible and Mr. Jesus and Joe the moron.   I checked on the pear the next morning.  Perhaps god had been out of the office or on a journey.   But still no gold.    And that was just fine because I didn't want any religion and the pear tasted swell.

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO EILEEN FARLEY? (ANOTHER TRUE STORY FROM MY CHILDHOOD)

We were pre-pre-teens playing in our neighborhood in San Francisco, Jacqueline, Joan, Eileen, Jim, Marlene, Janice, and my brother Don. Sometimes Donald Stone came from the next block.  He tried out for the role of group bully and he got the part.   But he tired of us and went back to his own territory.    There was nothing special about us and not worth telling about except to ask you, “Have you seen Eileen Farley recently?”

We invented a game called Find The Rabbit. One of us, the Rabbit, hid and the rest of us competed to find the Rabbit.  Nice invention don’t you think?  No fences could exclude us because we were super-heroes then and could leap high gates in one or two bounds. Damage to shrubbery or a flowerbed was not a goal of the game but it did not deter swift pursuit either.  We simply presumed that everyone’s front, back or side yard was our rightful play area.   And we were unhindered by adult direction.    The first to find the rabbit got the trophy and a clever new hiding place was greatly admired too.

You probably invented the same game yourself and I only tell you about it to set the scene for the important part which is that play came to an abrupt end for one of us.   Fresh home from Catholic Church one Sunday came Eileen and she brought alarming news.   We were all going to an dreadful place later, all except Eileen.    And our parents were going there too.  It was a horrid place and bad, bad things would happen to us and forever.  It was because we were nasty and unsaved.  Eileen was saved.  She didn’t say how but we were definitely not!

Eileen played with us once or twice more.  Her cheerful smile and pretty face became squinched up; she looked frightened.  Then we saw her no more even though she lived directly across the street for years.  And we never saw her parents either.

I was very puzzled.  This was in the days before I learned not to ask my parents or any big people how or why things worked.   My parents only shrugged and said, “Some people believe that.”   Evidently they did not feel in any danger and that was some relief to me.   But we did miss Eileen.  And I had a lot of pondering to do.  Was Eileen locked up at home or at church? What did getting saved mean? What things are true and what are not?   How does the world work?  Did anyone know any of these things and if so why wouldn’t they tell me?  Why the secrecy?

Eileen never reappeared.   Now I know what happened. She had fallen into the Catholic Cult and some criminal in a black suit had poisoned her mind! And her family had let it happen!  And now I know how vile it is to load up a vulnerable child’s mind with superstitious fears, passing it off as known truth.  I still think of her and I hope she escaped.  So I ask you,

DO YOU KNOW WHAT HAS BECOME OF EILEEN FARLEY?

ADAM'S ABDOMEN

I am fairly well informed bibally.  I know for a fact that god was made in our image.  Still there are some puzzlers.  Take Adam.  Every photo I have seen of Adam shows his belly button (umbilicus to the upper class).  That means there was a placenta (after birth to us ordinary people).  When I first noticed that, my brow squinched up and my head tilted over to the left in my quizzical mode.  What is wrong here?  I couldn’t recall any bible reference to god’s pregnancy with Adam.  Did he have morning sickness?  Was it a vaginal or caesarean delivery?  It doesn’t say.  Do you know?

Adam was made in god’s image though and that meant god had a belly button too but again no biblical notice of god’s mother.   Now take Eve, (greek for rib girl) she isn’t god’s mother just a daughter.  But she wasn’t born normal: she popped up another way entirely.

She was fabricated by god from Adam’s rib.  The job was done in a twinkling or with some other machine and it was a good job too. I do believe that because Adam and all of us males are short one rib on the right side, maybe left side. Anyway in close up photos, statues, and paintings Eve has a belly button too.  Why?   I don’t know but you can see for yourself in the movies when she prances around nude.  Altogether a lovely gal.  High, proud breasts and that coy smile!   Everyone likes her.

HOW I LOST THE DEBATE WITH A CALVINIST

RESOLVED:  THE GOD OF CALVIN IS REAL
from an actual on-line debate with Peter ------.

BILL'S OPENING STATEMENT:  I yield the debate and agree that the god of Calvin is real.  He is a real product of human imagination and ranks on the top shelf with Snow White, Baron von Munchausen, Tooth Fairy, Mithra, Til Eugenspiegle, the new godlet of the mormons and my favorite, GREAT FROG.

I expect Peter doubts Great Frog's claim to have created the cosmos from holy pond scum.  It is a stupid claim, yet it stands on exactly the same footing as the creation stories of Peter's god's handbook.  (That those stories were copied whole cloth from earlier religions is a clue.)

Peter will tell you his cult's god created us and only he (the god, not Peter) could give us the power to think and reason.  It is a curious assertion  since his god was only recently invented.  The earth and cosmos were going along fine under the long series of prior gods.

Peter, like all of us, was born an atheist and he remains an atheist toward all past present and future gods except his current pet.  Had we been born in ancient Egypt,  Peter  would be fiercely debating for the reality of The Great Sun God Ra, creator of everything and provider of sun , rain, crops and bla, bla, bla.   I would be saying,  'Not so fast Pete.  Notice that the sun and rain carry on fine even when you miss a day with prayers and burnt offerings."

Gods have come and gone; Yahweh of the Calvin cult is just as impotent as Athena, Ra, or Jesus or Satan.  That is easy to prove with competitive prayers.  If I hadn't already lost this debate we could hold an ox burning for a demonstration.

I don't know why  Peter has settled in with Calvin's Yahweh instead of Allah or Pat Robertson.  Probably it is what Peter was brainwashed with as a child.  That is the usual way the virus spreads.  But I say, don't give up on Peter; he might yet be brave and face the unknown decently like a Freethinker.  I say, Peter, dump the whole pile of gods and spooks into the superstition trash can.

Since I have lost this debate we can all go have a beer.  May the Great Frog be in your prayers and ever protect you from the bad boogie man under the bed.

ANOTHER DAMN SALAD DRESSING

Bill is off duty again so as usual he has shoved his responsibilities over to me, Ralph, his Co-adjuter Plenipotentiary.  I do love the title but the salary is pathetic for a learned person as I.  I have objected but Bill tells me that co-adjutors are plentiful in the bushes and I could even be replaced with a nuncio or defrocked archie-bish.   He pays on time and provides dental coverage so I just put up with him.

Bill suggests these Vinegarettes be read sparingly.  Best is to sprinkle them between  more leafy reading matter because too much of his junk gives many readers spasms in the belly and the fantods. Some readers want Bill to add sugar to his recipe but Bill said he tried sugar and it took all the joy out of it for him.

What gets Bill's crank over wound is the way 'intelligent' folk swallow down their ill-sauced religious salad and defer to the quackos on Sunday. He is amazed at their refusal to contradict religious pronouncements or even question them or better to stand up in church and say, "Oh, Bull Shit!  You know that is a lie!"

I do sympathise with Bill on that.  Those people don't even take note that churches, gogues, and mooshies (that is the name for the islam places) are all telling children different stories as real fact.

I asked Bill why he hasn't informed the public about that.  He says that many people have tried but get crumpled up or burnt as blasphemers (that is the make believe offense that they pull out when troubled by reality).  Bill feels he can be more informative with his vinegar and oil mix.  Personally I think he is typing into the wind but it makes him happy.  And he needs to do something besides watching all his favorite girlie porn to justify the purchase of his new peuter.

Anyway, that is the way I see it and it is enough for this Vinegarette.     Ralph

SEEKING A CERTIFIED FLIGHT TO SALVATION

A recent news item reported that almost all Americans are sure they are going to heaven.  I have talked to some of them and discovered this: They will be flying on separate planes.  You get your ticket from whatever cult you have selected, but each has its own airline.

They were all shocked that I wasn't scheduled to fly and each pressed me to join his or her sect.  They told me that eternity is a good long time and the flight is not so short either, I should get good seats right away.

I went to the nearby pastor and said I wanted to book some reservations.  He put his arm around my shoulder and led me to his sanctuary.  "Bill, if you put in with us it's a sure bet you'll be sitting in first-class for your trip into Eternity.   All you have to do is have faith and I can supply that for you if you join up."

I thanked him but wanted to shop around.  There was a more impressive church across the street and I poked in there.  I got a warm welcome, a firm handshake and a reassuring smile.  But the conversation left me unsettled.  The minister said that the pastor across the street was a fool and sure to roast in hell. "No, Bill, faith with out good work is useless, and at our place you contribute some money and we hire folks to do the good work for you."  I said I needed to think it over and he said that was fine, but I should hurry as a fiery doom hung over me.

So I went to the pastor on the other corner and asked if I signed on with him would I go to heaven?  He got right to the point.  "Look, Bill, the decision has already been made.  We are each predestined for the heavenly choir or the hot place; there is nothing we can do about it.  Your minister and your pastor are just whistling Dixie.  Nice tune but it won't get you squat upstairs.  But if you are a tenor, I can get you predestined and you are on your way with Calvin Air Express."

I checked at the Air Islam office next.  "Oh yes, we have an immediate seating plan.  And you fly with some really nice virgins.  We can get you reservations.  You only need to blow up yourself and a load of infidels and a building to get 36 virgins.  Two buildings get you 72 virgins."

The multiple virgin part was tempting but....

The last option on that block was a cathedral.  The priest made me sit in his little ticket booth where he explained it all to me through a grill.  "Oh those cults, ignore them!  Just get to a priest for a confession before you croak and all is well.  You roll the beads and do some Bloody Marys, a nice donation is good and you're in.  It even works for our guys that diddle the little boys and girls.  They are all up there, you know.  First class tickets and no waiting for check-in."

You can be sure I was plenty confused.  Five confirmed tickets to heaven, but each had a different flight plan.  Here is the hardest part:  Each cult was absolutely certain all the others had flawed plans.  I thought and thought.  Some of them must be wrong, but which ones?  I thought some more until I saw the light: They were all frauds!
Some day I'll just die and be done with it.  I know this:  Alive or dead, I don't want to be anywhere near those liars.

REVELATIONS 9-12 (Years old that is)

Cub Scout Pack One met every month.   We had blue uniforms with short pants and a gold neckerchief; nice I guess except in San Francisco's cold fog.  Having a little fun from time to time was ok but being good militaristic scouts was paramount.   And in pursuit of good character we were exposed to religion.  I had heard rumors about gods and stuff but it was not discussed in my family so I was ignorant of it and neutral about it.   About once a month  we cubs were herded to this church and next month over to that church; never to a synagogue or mosque because they had not been invented yet evidently.  Mostly we sat numbly through the rituals and stuff with minds adrift and bodies wiggling.

But occasionally I listened and was startled to notice that the big chief or this church was entirely contradicting the big chief of the others.  Very curious!  Because I was innocent and had not yet learned not to try and get meaningful information from adults, I asked our scout leaders and my parents about it.  I learned.  Their answers were different but all the same basically that I wouldn't understand and don't ask such foolish questions.

So there I was, one skinny boy against the High Pondoos of the Church and the Big Scout Chiefs and the Parents.  There was so much fog!  But I listened even more carefully to sermons, songs and all the praying.  I learned about heaven and the multiple incompatible ways to get in.  And about hell and  all the fun ways to get in.

At night falling asleep I considered it all and my lonely conclusion was that church business smelled funny, like bad fish.  Later when the fog lifted I realized it was all lies.

"I DECIDED TO BELIEVE" (based on a real incident)

Sometimes clergy persons appear to be rational, even friendly people.   I know such an one, a real lutheran pastor.  He was open to discussion so I asked him how he could believe in all the preposterous things he was obliged to believe.  He straight out told me that he couldn't see how those things might be true but he had decided to believe them.   WHAT??   Really, that is what he said!   I was stunned to hear it from a seemingly educated former friend.   I stopped, mouth agape, as my mind calculated that there was no more for me to say without calling him a gullible fool or a damn liar.

The episode prompted me to formulate my doctrine of the INCONTINENTAL DIVIDE, that great chasm between Homo sapiens and Homo ignoramus.  The latter Homos suffer from CMS:  Constipatorial Mentation Syndrome.  They use the most amazing chemistry when they turn "I don't believe"  into "I wish I could believe"  then into "I decided to believe" and finally "I do believe". It all happens in their brains which make use of the straining, squeezing circuitry which normal folks use to void their bowels.  They enter a silly world of make believe and magical thinking.  That is why it is so immoral to teach religious thinking to trusting children.

But they don't turn to their magic where it would do them some good.  When they want to go to Las Vegas for a liturgical conference, ha, ha, they get plane reservations.  Why not  "I want to grow wings and fly" or "I have decided to grow wings and fly".  That should work as well as "I decided to believe."

THERE IS GOING TO BE A RUPTURE

I heard all about it last week on TV.  A scrubbed-up, suit and tied man informed us all that a great rupture will occur soon, even any moment now.  All of the people who voted for this man's god will whoosh off the earth in a twinkling (possibly some sort of space craft).  The rest of us will be miserable over it and sad to see them gone, he said.  Maybe, but I'm not so sure about that part.

People like him are called evangelicals and other names.  You can usually identify them by their cherubic smile and clean fingernails (they don't do any useful work).   The smile is to show the rest of us how wonderful it feels to be an idiot.  This one on TV was certain of the big plan but muddy about details.  He didn't know if people will be whooshed in their clothes or butt naked.  Or if they can finish the dinner dishes or pull the car over to the side of the freeway. Do they take along their false teeth or various plastic implants?  He could't say but in any case he hoped it would be soon because he wanted to be whooshed.   I guess things are not going so well for him here.

I say let them go; how many morons do we really need?  But here is the big problem!  They plan to kidnap all children under twelve!  That is not just their own poor children but atheist children and your catholic and jewish and islammy children too.  Parental consent is not required for this job.  This is a grand conspiracy to commit abduction and not just across some dinky state line.

I was pretty upset  when I heard this but I thought it over and now I don't think we need to worry.  The rupture business is an old trick and a big flop.  It has already been tried by other religious leaders like Mr. Koresch at Waco, Texas and Mr. Jim Jones, the kool-aid poisoner and some Heavens Gate folks.  I prefer the last group; they left the children out of it and just offed themselves.

Heck, my grandfather had a rupture.  But he never harmed any children; he just walked crooked.

A MATTER OF SUBSTANTIAL IMPORTANCE TO BABIES, BLESS THEM, PROBABLY

We here at the Religion and Other Spooky Stuff Desk,  keep up with the vatican comedians for you.   It has been known for centuries  that babies who got dead before they got baptized never made it  to heaven.   Lucky for them though they didn't go to hell either.  They just evaporated into limbo.  Really!  Limbo is not a board game but some where between the good place and the bad place.  It is a murky place and no fun at all.

But in recent years the vaticanizers have been knitting their brows for a way to sneak the babies into heaven.  After all the babies, tho loaded up with original sin, never had a chance to enjoy the sins.  So they, the guys in the black clothes, pondered and fussed.  One said,  "All of us have hope for the babies." Ain't that sweet!

Anyway we can all relax now probably.   Though the official decision seems muddled to me,  they claim to have found a way to empty limbo and transplant the babies into heaven.   What they did with the original sin wasn't stated; it had to go somewhere.  So it is good for the babies but what will the priests use limbo for now that it is vacated?   After all here is some well established, certified catholic real estate going to waste.  We will follow this for you and report as soon as word comes down from Rome.

THE AMAZING PAT ROBERTSON

A while back religious broadcaster Pat Robertson warned the city of Orlando that by allowing gay organizations to put up multicolored rainbow flags in support of sexual diversity, "It'll bring about terrorist bombs; it'll bring earthquakes, tornados and possibly a meteor."  Then he added,  "This is not a message of hate; this is a message of redemption."

Gosh, do you think he believes that sort of stuff?   I say when a grownup talks plain stupid, check him for a brain tumor.  Or it could be just old-fashioned superstitious ignorance.  He didn't actually give orders for a bombing but it is clear that he says god wants it to happen.  Would this make him a conspirator should someone carry out god's intention?

The part I liked best is where he threw in the meteor.  He says the other calamities will happen, but the meteor is put in as only a possibility.  A nice distinction.  After god has slaughtered the little children of Orlando with tornado, quake and bomb, Robertson may have god throw in the meteor for a sparkling finale.

But here is the most serious part of it all, the media report this as if it were normal talk rather than diseased mouth foaming!

But it could be a brain tumor.

THE CLERGY AND THE HARRY POTTER BOOK

The Harry Potter problem seems to be that children might mistake his magic and miracles for reality.  But Harry is presented as fiction and not endorsed as fact by trusted adults.  Religious magic, such as virgin births, angels, devils, heavenly rewards for terrorist martyrdom, and infallible popes ARE presented as fact by trusted adults.  There is heavy social pressure on children to pretend to believe.  Few adults are brave enough to tell the truth to children. Harry Potter books are a direct threat threat to religion because the book's magic stands on the same imaginary base as the religious magic.

One might hope that religion, true or false, would contribute to a peaceful world.  But when each sect claims to have the only truth and denies the rival sects, humanity is separated into warring camps.  History and current events prove this to be a major source of cruelty and hate.

When children are brain-washed into religious mysticism, their view or reality is distorted and their critical thinking impaired rendering them vulnerable to the manipulations of imams, priests and Pat Robertsons.

JUST WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE?

In his short essays, Bill van Druten usually spills the beans all over the religion industry for us. But today's essay below is by Ralph, Bill''s Coadjutor Plenipotentiary.

Bill asked me to respond to your request for a suitable column. He would have written himself but he foolishly went outside and his feet got cold. He says that his toes are connected to his brain and it has not worked properly since mid November. He prayed for a thaw but he doesn't get much service in the prayer department so I have to do his work for him. I have my own opinion about Bill's cold brain claim but never mind that now. I know he would have liked to send you the sort of proper column that you deserve but in this emergency you will have to make do with my effort. I have chosen for my topic:   ARE THE CURRENT GODS WORKING HARD ENOUGH FOR US OR SHOULD WE GET BETTER ONES?

You know that any god that only sits around sucking up praise all day isn't getting much real work done. And you certainly have noticed that many prayers are answered late and some not at all. Really, folks if a god is going to accept the position it aught to give reliable service or expect to be recalled. I say the current gods are simply not cutting enough mustard. Are you with me this far? Good.

So, do I have a suggestion or am I just wearing down this keyboard to keep my fingers busy?  No, I mean yes, I have a plan and this is it: we dump the slackers we have now and get replacement gods as soon as possible. Don't worry we have plenty to choose from, new and old. The new ones are shiny, are computer savvy and have Norton Utilities. But I say forget them. They are expensive and go obsolete too soon.   Instead lets hire some of the gods that really produced in the old days. There are plenty lying around that are not used up. Take Baal for example, shake off some rust and you have a damn fine god that satisfied honest folks for a good long time.  And also there is Thor, except that he has bad arthritis (that is why he is tho thor!  Rim shot!).   Or, take my favorite, Poseidon!   There is a god that can produce for your ocean and earthquake departments.  With Poseidon (Neptune if you prefer) you get the swell trident and lots of sea creatures in the bargain.  Mermaids too, bare breasted and lovely, if you can get over the fishy aroma.

And there are so many more old timers what would work cheap but are pulling unemployment; it is just a waste.    Why, they would be so eager to put on the yoke again that none of them would go to lounging around resting every seventh day. And they wouldn't be too haughty to answer prayers or adjust the weather either.

We are getting shabby service folks. I don't know why we tolerated it so long and send in the big money. And that is another thing. With your older gods, an ox or a bullock or even a goat now and then is all they want. Hell, you can even fake it with imitation ox smoke; what do they know?  Anyway that is what I think.   I know Bill is in favor of dumping the current slackers.  But I don't know if he means to get new or rent or self-insure.  Probably he will have an opinion if he ever warms up.

For fairness we print the following outburst from one of the incumbent gods.

People, I am busy here. The sun comes up on time and goes down properly; isn't that enough for you?  And about the money, I've got a lot of overhead.  Angles and thrones and principalities are not working for nothing these days with the union and they want comprehensive health coverage.    Then there is this stable of virgins I have to keep for your heroes.   They want fancy clothes all the time and they don't eat hay.   Frankly they are irritating to have around, PMS and all, but you insist on them so don't blame me for the expenses.

Look, I'll take care of the sun but don't trouble me with your little problems; see my mullahs or my popes or the archpishop of Canterbury or any one of my local agents.  And I hope Bill freezes the other half of his wit too.

Some very good news for Jews

American catholic bishops a few years ago (2002 perhaps) decided catholics no longer need to convert jews. Yes, isn't that swell! This was the most magnanimous gesture by a catholic since the pope forgave Galileo for being right, remember that?  These catholic comedians had recently learned that their god had a prior commitment to the jews, some kind of eternal deal before god became catholic. The church had been wrong then to torture jews in order to save their souls. Or at least they shouldn't do it any more.
I don't know why it took so long to figure this out but I am proud that Americans thought of it. I bet the pope wishes he had. The older popes were mean to jews, even harsh at times. But everything is okay now. No hard feelings, right?

An important catholic guy said that the announcement is nothing new. But a jewish guy said that it was groundbreaking. If the jews do get the catholics off their backs it will be nice for them and they can get on with being even more special than anyone else.  Anyway, jews can still come over to the catholic side if they want. Then they will have dual heavenly citizenship while retaining their rights as The Chosen Dudes.

It is possible that I don't understand these high toned ideas fully but I understand them better than the bishops do. They have been distracted with the priestly child sex education scandal. I expect them to have priests segregated and not allowed in the heavenly sauna when children are present.  Those of us who are not jewish or catholic nor special in any other category are left in our previous condition: headed for the hot place. Still, if we are good and patient perhaps some bish will sneak us in the balcony.

For comic idiocy nothing is better than committee work and catholic committee work is the all around tops.

Should Fraud Laws Stop at Church Door?

Collecting scads of money on the basis of a promise of glorious life after death would be fraud by a fish oil salesman or auto dealer. But most every church offers some kind of eternal life package. Some say you will enjoy heaven in your own personal body. And that is valid even if you have been blown up or eaten by a shark or badly rotten underground. Seems untidy to me but there is powerful voodoo involved.
But here is a problem. When you recognize that churches deny each other's claims you can smell something fishy. Each insists it has the one true golden road to the stars and that the others are cults and liars. But if churchly authority is valid for claims of eternal life it is probably valid for invalidating each other's claims and you end up with a big bowl of lies. Do you get a sniff of scam here?
And why has no consumer magazine covered this important matter for us? Will we or won't we have life after we croak and which cult is in charge?
I will offer you my opinion on this: I say it is just plain double dealing old style FRAUD and aught to be prosecuted as such.

Sore Afflicted and Grievous Chagrined

Dear Bill,
I am sore afflicted and grievous chagrined. While checking the history of my family I discovered that all my ancestors are Mormons. It is very strange because my family goes back thousands of generations to primordial slime algae, which you know is well before the Mormon religion was invented. I am majorly upset about this. How could that have happened to my people and what can be done about it?

Dear sore and grievous,
Yes, this is a sad situation to be sure. Rest assured that you are not alone and there is help.
Mormons are a peculiar lot. They believe the most amazing things. Their founder seems to have been a first rate scam artist. He claimed to have discovered golden tablets written on in an ancient language which he, with his less than grammar school education, was to translate. Alas, the tablets have been taken up to heaven (or so I was told). That means they can't bank the gold and the inscriptions are not available for scholarship.
Anyway, as you report mormons have 'converted' a lot of dead people of various or of no religion. The essay which follows should clarify the situation. Read the entire thing; the helpful part is toward the end and will gratify you.

POST MORTEM RETRO UN-BAP
Taking a tip from Mormon practices I now offer Ritual Un-Baptism of your deceased family members. Many of your forbears were Catholic or Protestant or Jewish or Uuga-Boog in days when atheism was discouraged. And of course lots of your ancestors are now Mormons against their will. You know that live Mormons have been going around baptizing your dead relatives without written releases.
Mormons do it with genie-ology. They can even convert folks who died before God was invented. And lots of ancestors died because they were members of the wrong religion. Never mind. They clean them all up by baptizing the dead in absentia. It is a theo-legal process with a lot of leverage. It can yank an ancestor right out of limbo or purgatory or even hell where he probably belongs and raise him to the sacred hall of the Mormon God who isn't so particular about the company he keeps. It has drawn a big crowd of former Catholic customers who jumped ship to Mormonism for the better deal. The Catholic God is furious as you'd expect, but so far he hasn't found a loophole in the Mormon scheme.
But Good News! My research department has discovered that Post Mortem Retro-Bap works in reverse too. And even better, my scientists will soon have the jump on them all with Prospective Pre-Un-Bap for future relatives.
My regular Retro-Un-Bap process is open for business now! I will atheise any dead wood in your family tree at very low cost to you. Imagine the gratitude for the release from eternal hymn singing and praising and kissing up. $15 US will set free any relative. And as a tip of the hat to Mormons, I will do two of their dead ones for $25. Or I can de-sanctify your whole family way past Adam to include your Neanderthal cousins; the whole enchilada for $1000. It's a big saving over the individual price.
No need to send names, photos or bones; just tell me how many you want done and send the money to me, Bill van Druten.
